Second Servings

Eating to Quickly
Before you can say pass the salt your plate is clean and you’re still hungry. Eating quickly is one of the main causes of overeating. Your body often does not have the time to tell you that you’re full before you’re on to the second plate. Eating slowly gives your brain more time to process what’s going on in your stomach and let you know it’s full.
            Tips:
·         Take smaller bites
·         Chew slowly, take the time to savor the taste of your food
·         Make conversation but listen to your mom’s advice, don’t chew with your mouth full.
·         Make sure you have time to eat. If you have to rush drink a glass of water after your meal, this will help you feel full and satiated
·         Observe good table manners, put down your knife and fork while chewing
·         If you’re eating with others, try to be the last one to finish. This will help you to pace yourself

Avoiding Second Helpings
If you are a fast eater, slowing down may help banish your urge for a second serving. If not, your challenge may just be the call of tasty food.
            Tips:
·         Unless you eat your leftovers for lunch don’t cook more than you can eat at one sitting
·         Drink a glass of water or juice, weight 5 minutes the urge will probably go away
·         Put away the leftovers before you sit down to eat
·         Distract yourself. Clean up the kitchen or make tomorrow’s lunch
·         Are you really hungry? Take a second and evaluate the situation. If you’re not don’t do it. If you are, have a piece of fruit for dessert or fall back on that ever handy glass of water.
